STAC JV GIRLS BASKETBALL: WAVERLY SHAKES OFF SLOW START; ROLLS OVER WINS, 43-19 (2024-12-18)
Valley Sports ReportWINDSOR — Waverly shook off a slow start offensively, and rolled through the middle two quarters on its way to a 43-19 win over Windsor in STAC junior varsity girls basketball action.
After a first quarter that saw just five points scored, Waverly led 3-2.
In the second quarter, Kezlyn DeKay knocked down a pair of 3-pointers, Gianna Soprano scored five points, including a 3-pointer Taylin Gonzalez canned a 3-pointer in a 16-9 spurt that gave the Wolverines a 19-11 lead at the half.
Gonzalez canned two more 3-pointers and scored eight points in the third quarter, while Raygane Oakes drained a 3-pointer and scored five points, and DeKay added four points to fuel a 17-4 blitz that upped Waverly's advantage to 36-15 heading into the fourth quarter.
Gonzalez led Waverly with 14 points, including three of the team's eight 3-pointers, while Oakes and DeKay each had 10 points and two 3-pointers, and Soprano added seven points.
Waverly returns to action Friday at Chenango Valley.
