NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: WELLSBORO STARTS FAST IN 45-28 WIN OVER SAYRE (2024-12-17)

SAYRE — Wellsboro build a double-digit lead at halftime, and cruised to a 45-28 win over Sayre here Wednesday night in NTL girls basketball action.

Chloe Brandenburg buried six 3-pointers — three in the first quarter, and three more in the second — and scored 23 of her game-high 25 points in the first half.

Brandenburg scored 12 points in the first quarter to help the Hornets to a 14-8 lead. She scored 11 more in the second quarter to fuel a 20-8 run.

The Redskins switched to a box-and-1 and limited Brandenburg to just two points in the second half.

Senior Abbie McGaughey had 10 points, five rebounds, and two blocked shots, and junior Lizzie Hunter had 10 points, four rebounds, and six steals to lead the Redskins, while freshman Reaghan McGaughey had six points — on 2 of 3 shooting from behind the 3-point arc in her first game of the season — and three rebounds.

Junior Rylee Lantz had seven rebounds, four steals, two assists, and three blocked shots, and Kenna Parrish scored two points and grabbed three boards.

Sayre, now 1-3, returns to action Friday at Wyalusing.
