NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: PELLICANO RECORDS TRIPLE-DOUBLE; SAYRE ROLLS PAST WILLIAMSON, 94-50 (2024-12-19)
Valley Sports ReportSAYRE — Senior Nick Pellicano registered a triple-double, and Sayre used its pressure defense to create fast-break points in a 94-50 win over Williamson here Thursday night NTL Small School boys basketball action.
"We played loose, we played our tempo, our pace and our defense turned into our offense again,"said Sayre coach Paul Blythe.
"We did a great job getting into our press and turning up the pressure each possession," he added. "We caused a lot of turnover tonight, we had 28 steals to lead ourselves to fast-break points."
Pellicano had 35 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists, to go along with five steals, and two blocked shots
"Nick (Pellicano) had a huge night, but did it very unselfishly," said Blythe. "He was able to attack the rim in our half-court set and out of our press get the quick outlet and score on layups.
"Ryan (Ressler) was a big target for us down low and played wonderful defense inside along with Hudson Trump.
"I love to see a scorebook full of points by a lot of players," added Blythe. "It means our offense is generally clicking and our players are playing together."
Senior Ryan Ressler had 16 points and three rebounds in the win, while senior Hudson Trump eight points, 11 rebounds, and one blocked shot, and senior Mike Griffin had eight points and three rebounds.
Senior Edwin Rivera scored six points for the Redskins, while senior Zack Senese chipped in with four points, six assists, and seven steals, junior Karter Green contributed eight rebounds, three assists, and five steals, and senior Dalton Forrest added four rebounds and five steals.
Pellicano pumped in 15 points in the first quarter, while Ressler had six points, senior Theo Molina drained a 3-pointer, and Trump converted an old-fashioned three-point play to fuel a game-opening, 31-14, run in the opening eight minutes.
Griffin, who buried a pair of 3-pointers, Ressler, and Pellicano each scored six points, and Trump canned a 3-pointer in a 23-10 run to push the Sayre lead to 54-24 at the half.
Pellicano scored 12 more points in the third quarter, and Green and Ressler each scored four points to lead Sayre in a 21-11 run that extended the lead to 75-35.
Jack Nolan led Williamson with 18 points and Maddox Hartmann added 11 points.
Sayre, now 4-2, returns to action next Thursday when it hosts Tioga in the opening round of the annual Valley Christmas Tournament.
