NTL WRESTLING: ATHENS OVERCOMES EARLY FORFEITS TO TOP WYALUSING, 38-30 (5 PHOTOS) (2024-12-19)

Valley Sports Report
WYALUSING — Athens overcame a pair of early forfeits, thanks in large part to four consecutive wins — three by technical falls and one via fall — to post a come-from-behind, 38-30, win over Wyalusing here Thursday night in NTL wrestling action.

Senior Caleb Nason, now 13-2, continued his strong start to the season with a pin of Brenden Wells in the 285-pound bout to give the Wildcats a 6-0 lead.

Athens forfeits at 107 and 121 (there was no match at 114 pounds) gave the Rams a 12-6 lead, but the Wildcats won the next four weight classes.

Sophomore Zaine Campbell, now 11-2, started the run with a 19-4 technical fall in 4:42 against Bostyn McMicken at 127 pounds to close the gap to 12-11.

At 133 pounds, sophomore Wyatt Clink gave Athens the lead for good, forging a 19-3 technical fall over Jackson Fischer to make it 16-12.

Sophomore Lucas Persun kept the train rolling for the Wildcats, decking Matthew Johnson in 2:43 in their 139-pound match-up to push the lead to 22-12.

Junior Karson Sipley capped the Athens run, piling up a 15-0 technical win over Reuben Kinney at 145 pounds to extend the lead to 27-12.

Wyalusing's Jonathan Earle and Ayden Hunsinger scored falls at 152 and 160 pounds to pull the Rams within four points, at 27-24, but the Wildcats answered with back-to-back bonus-point win to sew up the win.

Sophomore Brendan Cooke scored a 16-1 technical fall in 3:00 against Conner Earle at 172 pounds to give the Wildcats a 32-24 lead, then sophomore Connor Davidson, now 11-2, put the match out of reach with a pin of Dominick Hadlock in 1:30 in the 189-pound bout.

Wyalusing's Daniel Fox scored a first-period fall at 215 pounds to provide the final margin.

Athens, now 3-0, returns to action Friday night in a tri-meet against Selinsgrove and Wellsboro.
