NTL GIRLS SWIMMING: DENLINGER PACES ATHENS' EFFORTS AT 'KEEP THE BEAT' INVITATIONAL (19 PHOTOS) (2024-12-29)
Valley Sports ReportDIMOCK, Pa. — Elizabeth Denlinger paced Athens with three second-place finishes and a third-place finish, and Olivia Thompson and Evelyn Panek also turned in strong days here Friday at the Keep the Beat Girls Swimming & Diving Invitational here at Elk Lake High School.
The Wildcats finished third in the six-team field.
(NOTE: Anyone swimming faster times than those noted as "district-qualifying" times had already qualified for districts prior to Friday, and thus were not noted."
Denlinger finished second in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:15.15.
Denlinger also placed second in the 100-yard freestyle in a district-qualifying time of 1:01.83, while Thompson was third in a district-qualifying 1:01.85, Panek was fourth in 1:02.7, Madeline Henderson was fifth in 1:05.08, Brooke Lyon was seventh in 1:07.66, and Kayla Marshall was ninth in 1:09.71.
Panek finished second in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 26.84, while Denlinger was third in a district-qualifying 27.81 seconds, Thompson was fourth in 27.87 seconds, and Kaitlyn Leonard was ninth in 29.73 seconds.
The foursome of Thompson, Panek, Denlinger and Marshall finished second in the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:53.3.
Thompson finished third in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:11.35, while Panek was fifth in a district-qualifying 1:17.43, and Leonard was 10th in 1:22.65.
Henderson finished fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:29.88
Leonard finished sixth in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:23.33
MaryRose Bertsch finished ninth in the 200-yard IM in. A time of 3:16.51.
Denlinger also finished ninth in a bonus event — the 100-yard IM — in a time of 1:14.19.
Athens returns to action Jan. 7 when it hosts Wellsboro.
