NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: ATHENS LETS FOURTH-QUARTER LEAD SLIP AWAY IN 41-38 LOSS AT COWANESQUE VALLEY (2025-01-02)
Valley Sports ReportWESTFIELD, Pa. — Athens built an eight-point lead through three quarters, but Cowanesque rallied for a 41-38 win here Thursday night in NTL girls basketball action.
Sophomore McKenna Jarvis scored all six of the Wildcats' points in the opening stanza to help Athens to a 6-4 lead.
Jarvis added seven more points, including a 3-pointer in the second quarter, and freshman Allison Kemp, who also canned a 3-pointer, had five points in a 14-10 spurt that put the Wildcats up 20-14 at the halftime intermission.
Jarvis scored seven points in the third quarter as Athens posted a 13-11 advantage in the stanza to extend its lead to 33-25 heading into the final eight minutes.
Senior Addy Wheeler scored all five of her points in the game, and all of Athens' points in the final stanza, as the Indians closed the game with a 16-5 run to pull out the win.
Jarvis led Athens with a career-high 20 points, five rebounds, and three staeals, while Kemp had six points and six rebounds, Wheeler added five points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and six steals, and senior Sara Bronson chipped in with four rebounds, four steals, and two blocked shots.
Ella Churchill led CV with 19 points, and Ashley Woodring added 10 points.
Athens, now 4-3, hosts Towanda Friday.
