THE VALLEY — The first Tuesday of 2025 is a busy event with a home wrestling match (at Waverly), as well as home basketball games (at Athens and Tioga), and a home swim meet (at Athens) among nine events on the docket.

WRESTLING
Chenango Valley (0-9 overall, 0-2 STAC Central) at Waverly (7-2, 2-0), 6:30 p.m.: The Wolverines are coming off a 57-12 win over Vestal on Dec. 21, while the Golden Bears dropped a 36-30 decision to Johnson City Dec. 17.

Chenango Valley has five wrestlers with winning records, but only one will potentially match up against a Wolverine with a winning record.

124 pounds: CV 8th-grader Grayson Cortright (8-7) or sophomore Travis White (15-10) against Waverly freshman Drayton DeKay (22-3).

Athens (3-0) at Canton (2-1), 7 p.m.: The Wildcats have not wrestled a dual since beating Wyalusing, 38-30, on Dec. 19, while the Warriors dropped a 46-24 decision to Williamson on Dec. 18.

There are three possible match-ups involving wrestlers with winning records:

139 pounds: Canton sophomore Tommy Preston (6-4) against Athens sophomore Lucas Persun (8-3);

152 pounds: Canton Carson Rockwell (11-5) against Athens freshman Treyton Barrett (6-4);

172 pounds: Canton sophomore Blane Wesneski (9-4) against sophomore Athens sophomore Connor Davidson (11-2);

BOYS BASKETBALL
Newfield (5-1 overall, 4-0 IAC Small) at Tioga (3-5, 1-3), 5:30 p.m. JV start: The Tigers are coming off a 72-39 loss to Moravia Friday, while the Trojans edged Groton, 39-37.

North Penn-Mansfield (7-2, 3-1 NTL Large) at Athens (2-7, 2-3), 6 p.m. JV start: The Wildcats are coming off a 55-38 loss at Wellsboro Saturday, while the Tigers dropped a 55-36 decision to Montoursville.

NP-M beat Wellsboro, 63-33, earlier this season.

Sayre (6-3, 2-2 NTL Small) at Cowanesque Valley (2-7, 1-2), 6 p.m. JV start: The Redskins are coming off a 49-47 non-league loss to Mountain View, while the Indians dropped a 76-46 decision to Troy.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Waverly (8-0) at Chenango Forks (5-2), 5:30 p.m. JV start: The Wolverines are coming off a 65-32 non-league win over Sidney Saturday, while the Blue Devils topped Vestal, 47-34, Friday.
