NTL BOYS & GIRLS SWIMMING: ATHENS BOYS, GIRLS TOP FLEDGLING WELLSBORO (15 PHOTOS) (2025-01-07)

ATHENS — The Athens boys won every event in a 121-25 win over Wellsboro here Tuesday afternoon in NTL swimming action, while the Lady Wildcats won a 94-30 decision over the Hornets.

"We had some good swims and a number of swimmers tried out new events tonight," said longtime Athens coach Mark Keister, who noted this was the first meeting between Athens and Wellsboro, which is in its first year as a team.

BOYS
Athens 121, Wellsboro 25

Sophomore Brayden Pettitt and Eli Hicks won four events apiece, while senior Ethan Hicks was a triple-winner, and senior Josh Leonard and junior Ty Lezak were double-winners to pace the Wildcats.

Pettitt won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:52.74, and sophomore Austin Quattrini was third in 2:17.43.

Pettitt also won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:13.08, and Quattrini was third in 6:17.03.

Eli Hicks won the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:25.59, and Lezak was second in 2:36.09.

Eli Hicks also won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:05.23.

Pettitt and Eli Hicks teamed with Ethan Hicks and senior Ronel Ankam to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:36.06.

Eli Hicks and Ethan Hicks teamed with Leonard and Lezak to win the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:53.46.

Pettitt teamed with Leonard, Aiden Oldroyd and Shores to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:52.74.

Ethan Hicks led a sweep in the 100-yard butterfly, clocking in at 58.7 seconds, while Leonard was second in 1:01.5, and sophomore Dominic Musick was third in 1:06.84.

Leonard won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 25.92 seconds, and senior Aiden Oldroyd was third in 28.1 seconds.

Lezak led a sweep in the 100-yard breaststroke, winning in a time of 1:12.35, with Ankam placing second in 1:17.44, and Musick third in 1:19.68.

Sophomore Jacob Shores won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 56.65 seconds, and senior Pierce Oldroyd was second in 1:10.44.

GIRLS
Athens 94, Wellsboro 30

Juniors Evelyn Panek, Olivia Thompson and Elizabeth Denlinger were triple-winners, and senior Maryrose Bertsch and junior Madeline Henderson were double-winners to lead the Lady Wildcats.

Thompson, Panek, and Denlinger teamed with sophomore Kaitlyn Leonard to win the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:36.06.

Thompson, Panek, and Denlinger teamed with Henderson to win the 400-yard freestyle in a time of 4:17.78.

Panek led a sweep in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 26.96 seconds, while Thompson was second in 27.91 seconds, and Henderson was third in 30.51 seconds.

Thompson led a sweep in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:12.01, while Panek was second at 1:19.78, and Leonard was third at 1:25.06.

Denlinger won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:20.34.

Henderson and Bertsch teamed with junior Kayla Marshall and freshman Brooke Lyon to win the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 2:27.34.

Bertsch won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:32.57. She finished second in the 200-yard IM in a time of 3:12.4.

Denlinger finished second in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:18.85, and senior Elizabeth Talada was third in 2:24.18

Leonard was second in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:09.15, and Marshall was third in 1:09.65.

Talada finished second in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 6:36.7.

Athens will travel to Towanda on Thursday.
