IAC BOYS BASKETBALL: STATE-RANKED NEWFIELD ROLLS TO 45-19 WIN OVER TIOGA (2025-01-07)

TIOGA CENTER — Tioga stayed close for one quarter, but struggled to score the remainder of the game in a 45-19 loss to state-ranked Newfield here Tuesday night in IAC South Small School Division boys basketball action.

Brady Landmesser scored four points in the first quarter, but the Tigers trailed 13-7 after the opening stanza.

Junior Dominic Palmer's free throw was Tioga's lone point in the second quarter as the Trojans, ranked 16th in the state in Class C, used an 11-1 run to take a 24-8 lead into the halftime locker room.

Junior James Miller scored four points in the third quarter, and Newfield, with a 9-8 advantage, added just one point to its lead, and took a 33-16 lead into the final stanza.

Sophomore Gavin Kithcart scored Tioga's only field goal in the final eight minutes as Newfield closed the game with a 12-3 run.

Landmesser had six points and nine rebounds, and Kithcart had  six points and four boards for the Tigers, while Miller added five points and 11 rebounds.

Sophomore Jackson Bombard chipped in with five rebounds and two assists, and Palmer hauled down eight rebounds.

The Tigers shot 20 percent (7 of 35) from the field, and turned the ball over 26 times in the loss.

Tioga, now 3-6, returns to action Friday at Marathon.
