GROTON — The Tioga girls topped Groton, 3-1, here Tuesday at Memory Lanes, while the Tioga boys dropped a very close 3-1 decision in IAC boys bowling action.

GIRLS
Tioga 3, Groton 1

Kelsey Helmich paced Tioga to a total-pinfall victory of 2,011 to 1,900.

Tioga won the first game 682-610 and the second game 710-598, but Groton avoided the sweep with a 702-619 win in the third game.

Helmich rolled a 487 for the Tigers, while Selena LaFritz shot a 424, and Liberty Magner had a 368.

Paige Hicks and Kate Bleiler each shot 350 series in the win, and Sabrina Ellis added a 338.

BOYS
Groton 3, Tioga, 1

The match was dead even after the first two games, with Groton pulling out a 716-697 win in the third game for a total-pinfall win of 2,061 to 2,042.

Groton won the first game 733-681, but Tioga answered with a 664-612 win in the second game.

Garrett Godfrey led Tioga with a 464 series, while Nick Slater shot a 437 series, and Austin Mumbulo had a 393.

Charles Holmes had a 382 series for the Tigers, and James Luther added a 366.

Mike Brehm led Groton with a match-high 516 series.

Tioga returns to action Thursday at Newark Valley.
