ELMIRA — Waverly had four girls reach the podium, led by junior Emma Vanderhoof, here Saturday at the third annual Southern Tier Memorial Wrestling Tournament at the LeCom Events Center.

Vanderhoof placed third in the 120-pound weight class, while 8th-grader Gianna Rylott finished fourth at 100 pounds, and junior Sydney Rosenbloom and freshman Kennadie Cochrane each placed sixth at 107 and 114, respectively.

Niagara-Wheatfield won the team title with 138.5 points, while Homer was second with 132, General Brown was third with 117.5 points, Oneonta was fourth with 99, and Tioga was fifth with 96.5 points. Waverly was 11th in the 43-team field with 83 points, while SVEC was 14th with 67, and Owego was 28th with 24.5 points.

Vanderhoof, the third seed at 120 pounds, scored technical falls of 10-0 over Trumansburg's Lexi Howard, and Chloe Nicodemus of Canandaigua in the first two rounds.

In the quarterfinals, Vanderhoof forged a 12-2 technical fall over Schuyler's Jackie Mace to move into the semifinals, where she lost via fall in 2:23 to second-seed Mya Locke of Homer.

In the consolation semifinals, Vanderhoof scored a wild 16-12 win over Windsor's Kimberly Olaeta. Vanderhoof won the third-place match in a no contest.

Rylott, the fourth seed at 100 pounds, pinned Elmira's Amber Mahmood in 2:50 in the quarterfinals.

After losing to top-seed Kaelynn Dickson in the semifinals, Rylott pinned Chambersburg's Emily Shaffner in 1:10 in the consolation semifinals.

In the third-place match, Rylott lost via fall to West Genesee's Julianna Martini in 2:32.

Cochrane, the second seed at 107 pounds, pinned Johnson City's Olivia Rodriguez in 1:24 in the opening round, but lost via a 12-2 technical fall to Chambersburg's Jessica Li in the second round.

Cochrane bounced back with four consecutive wins to reach the consolation semifinals.

She started off her run with a pin of Fairport's Violet Herman in 2:07, then decked H-S-BG-U's London Miller in 27 seconds, and Oxford-Greene's Maggie Braman in 29 seconds.

Cochrane's final win of the day was a pin of Niagara-Wheatfield's Sumaya Syed in 1:46. After reaching the six-match limit for the day, Cochrane was unable to continue, and placed sixth.

Rosenbloom lost her first bout to eventual 114-pound runner-up Dallas Bohling of SVEC, then ripped off five straight wins to reach the consolation semifinals.

Rosenbloom started her run with a 10-0 technical fall win over Camden's Lola Miller, then decked Canandaigua's Piper Jones in 36 seconds, Addison's Chloe Smith in 42 seconds, and Groton's Remington Marshall in 1:20.

Rosenbloom capped her run with a pin of Homer's Alayne Riley in 1:18, but reached the six-match limit and was unable to continue.

Junior Elona Holmes was 2-2 in the 165-pound weight class. She won her first two matches, blanking Niagara-Wheatfield's Madison Munt in an 11-0 technical fall, and decking U-E's Aneesha Smith in 31 seconds, before losing in the quarterfinals and wrestlebacks.

Eighth-grader Gianna Zieniuk was 2-2 in the 165-pound weight class. After losing in the opening round, Zieniuk pinned Smith in 4:25, and Gouverneur's Elessa Koerick in 2:54.

Sophomore Abi Reedy was 1-2 at 138 pounds. Her lone win was a 10-0 technical fall win over Tioga's Cora Szymanski.

Freshman Faith Hyjek 0-2 at 126 pounds, and senior Savannah Savercool was 0-2 at 235 pounds.
