VALLEY SPORTS REPORT: WAVERLY'S JOHNSON, TIOGA'S McKEE, ATHENS' PANEK NAMED BISHOP BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION 'ATHLETES OF THE WEEK' (2025-01-15)

THE VALLEY — Waverly junior Derek Johnson rolled his second perfect game of the season during a monster week, while Tioga sophomore Declan McKee won another tournament, and Athens junior Evelyn Panek was a quad-winner in a Wildcat win. They are the Valley Sports Report / Bishop Brothers Construction "Athletes of the Week," for the week ending Jan. 11.

Johnson rolled two 700 series, and a 696 series on the week for the Wolverines.

Eight of his nine games topped 200, six were 236 or better, and his high games were 279, and 300.

Johnson rolled a 732 (217, 236, 279) in a 3-2 win over Owego, and a 696 (212, 246, 238) in a sweep of Chenango Valley.

He capped his week with a 739 series (257, 300, 182) to finish second individually, while leading Waverly to a team title at the STAC Mid-Season Tournament.

McKee went 4-0 with two first-period falls, and two technical falls to win the 101-pound title at the Southern Tier Memorial.

McKee also has titles at the Windsor Christmas Tournament and the Saratoga Invitational. He is 19-3 on the season.

ATHENS' PANEK NAMED BISHOP BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION GIRLS "ATHLETES OF THE WEEK"
Panek won four events in Athens' 94-31 win over Towanda.

Panek led a sweep in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:02.34. She also won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:17.16.

Panek was also on a pair of winning relays.
