NTL WRESTLING: UNBEATEN ATHENS STARTS FAST IN 42-26 WIN OVER NP-LIBERTY (24 PHOTOS) (2025-01-16)

ATHENS — Athens opened the match with three straight falls, and never trailed on its way to a 42-26 win over North Penn-Liberty here Thursday night in NTL wrestling action.

The Wildcats won seven of the 10 contested weight classes, and improve to 6-0 on the season.

Junior Karson Sipley started the Wildcats off with a pin of Brady Bower in 1:18 at 139 pounds, and freshman Treyton Barrett followed with the quickest fall of the night, decking Ryan Blackwell in 20 seconds at 145 pounds to make it 12-0.

Junior Hayden Mercer kept the Wildcat pin train rolling with a fall over Terrell Rinebold in 2:50 to extend the lead to 18-0.

Sophomore Brendan Cooke capped Athens' opening run with a 15-9 decision over Riley Oakes, who entered the night with a 21-6 record, at 160 pounds to make it 21-0.

After Ryan Roupp got NP-L on the board with a fall at 172 pounds, Athens sophomore Connor Davidson decked Gavin Stubblefield in 37 seconds at 189 pounds to make it 27-6.

Braden Route scored a technical fall for NP-L at 215 pounds, but senior Caleb Nason answered with a 49-second fall at 285 pounds to give the Wildcats a 33-11 lead.

The Mountaineers picked up forfeits at 107 and 114 pounds to close the gap to 33-23.

Sophomore Zaine Campbell sewed up the win for the Wildcats with a 14-8 decision over NP-L's Bryce Pequingot, who entered the match at 21-4.

Brayden Pequingot gave NP-L it's final points of the night with a 4-0 decision over junior Lucas Persun at 127 pounds.

Wildcat sophomore Wyatt Clink picked up a forfeit at 133 pounds to end the scoring.

Athens returns to action Wednesday at Towanda.
