STAC JV GIRLS BASKETBALL: WAVERLY SHAKES OFF SLOW START, ROLLS TO 48-25 WIN OVER WATKINS GLEN (2025-01-17)
Valley Sports ReportWAVERLY — After a slow first quarter, Waverly blew out to a big halftime lead en route to a 48-25 win over Watkins Glen here Wednesday night in non-league junior varsity girls basketball action.
Devinity Fischer and Kezlynn DeKay scored Waverly's only buckets in a first quarter that ended in a 4-4 tie.
In the second quarter, DeKay canned a pair of 3-pointers and pumped in 10 points, and Taylin Gonzalez and Paige Bubniak scored four points apiece to fuel a 20-3 blitz that gave the Wolverines a 24-7 halftime advantage.
DeKay scored seven more points in the third quarter as Waverly used a 13-8 spurt to build its lead to 37-15 heading into the final stanza.
DeKay led Waverly with a season-high 23 points, while Gonzalez scored seven, Bubniak added six, and Fischer and Gianna Soprano each chipped in with four.
Waverly, now 8-3, hosts Hilton Sunday.
