NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: HOT START PROPELS CANTON TO 59-31 WIN OVER SAYRE (2025-01-18)

CANTON — Canton raced out to a 21-point first-quarter lead, and cruised to a 59-31 win over Sayre here Friday night in NTL Small School girls basketball action.

Canton's Cailyn VanNoy came out of the locker room on firing, knocking down a trio of 3-pointers and pumping in 15 points in the first quarter, while Kendall Kitchen hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored nine points to fuel a 26-5 blitz in the first eight minutes.

VanNoy scored six more points in the second quarter as Canton used a 13-7 spurt to extend its lead to 39-12 at the half.

It was more of the same in the third quarter as the Warriors used a 14-4 run to make it 53-16 heading into the final eight minutes.

Senior Abbie McGaughey knocked down a pair of 3-pointers, and scored 10 points in the fourth quarter in a 15-6 Sayre run to close the game.

McGaughey led Sayre with a career-high 19 points, three rebounds, and three blocked shots, while freshman Makenna Parrish had eight points and two assists, and junior Rylee Lantz pulled down 10 rebounds and had two assists.

Junior Liz Hunter had four rebounds, three assists, and three steals for the Redskins, while senior Morgan Hickey and freshman Reaghan McGaughey each had three boards.

VanNoy had 23 points on 9-for-13 shooting to go with five boards, five assists, and five steals to lead Canton, and Kitchen netted 19 points, including four 3-balls, along with four assists, and five steals.

Sayre, now 1-10, returns to action Tuesday at Troy.
