NTL SWIMMING: ATHENS TURNS IN STRONG PERFORMANCES AT ERNIE SHARTLE INVITE (15 PHOTOS) (2025-01-18)

TUNKHANNOCK — Sophomore Brayden Pettitt and senior Ethan Hicks each had four top-three finishes, and sophomore Eli Hicks had four top-six finishes to lead the Athens boys here Saturday at the Ernie Shartle Invite, while junior Elizabeth Denlinger had four top-four finishes to pace the Lady Wildcats.

"Athens had a fantastic showing at the Ernie Shartle Invite," said Athens coach Mark Keister. "Every swimmer came away with at least one season-best time.

"We had strong competition in every event and our swimmers stepped up to the challenge," added Keister. "This will help us prepare for the remaining season and post-season competition."

BOYS
The lone win of the day for the Wildcats came in the first event of the meet with Pettitt, Ethan Hicks, Eli Hicks and senior Ryan Gorman teaming to win the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:43.03.

The same foursome teamed to place second in the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:32.04, and the foursome of Musick, senior Aiden Oldroyd, sophomore Matt Rossetti and senior Brady Darrow finished 12th in 1:52.05.

Pettitt finished second in the 200-yard IM, lowering his school record by .02 seconds to 2:00.39. Sophomore Dominic Musick was 12th in a time of 2:27.32

Ethan Hicks placed second in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 49.92 seconds, while Eli Hicks was fifth in 51.87 seconds, junior Ty Lezak was 17th in 57.87 seconds

Pettitt finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:01.22, and Lezak was 13th in 1:12.03

Ethan Hicks finished third in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 22.66 seconds, while Eli Hicks was sixth in 23.18 seconds, and Gorman was 10th in 24.18 seconds.

Musick finished eighth in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:04.35.

Sophomore Jacob Shores finished 14th in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:55.18. He finished 15th in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:04.41.

Sophomore Austin Quattrini finished 18th in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:15.58.

GIRLS
Denlinger placed third in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:12.7, while Elizabeth Talada was 10th in 2:23.3.

Denlinger placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:16.59, and junior Madeline Henderson was 16th in 1:26.97.

Denlinger teamed with juniors Olivia Thompson and Evelyn Panek and sophomore Kaitlyn Leonard teamed to finish third in the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 2:04.87.

The same foursome teamed to finish fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:48.78, and the foursome of Henderson, freshman Brooke Lyon, junior Kayla Marshall, and Talada was ninth in 1:56.9.

Panek finished fourth in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 26.34 seconds, while Thompson was 12th in 27.62 seconds, and Marshall was 22nd in a time of 28.97 seconds.

Panek was also ninth in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:00.12, while Henderson was 13th in 1:04.74, Marshall was 15th in 1:05.38, and Lyon was 24th in 1:07.53.

Thompson finished ninth in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:09.85.

Talada finished 11th in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 6:29.1.

Leonard finished 23rd in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:21.4.

Athens travels to Towanda Tuesday to swim girls defending district champs as a double-dual meet.
