STAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: WAVERLY FALLS TO STATE'S TOP-RANKED CLASS AA HILTON, 63-45 (24 PHOTOS) (2025-01-19)

Valley Sports Report
WAVERLY — Waverly played New York state's top-ranked Class AA team Hilton even in the first half, but St. Bonaventure-bound Mallory Heise took over in the second half to lead the Cadets to a 63-45 non-league girls basketball win Sunday afternoon.

Hilton led 13-9 after the first quarter, but senior Addison Westbrook pumped in 13 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, and sophomore Emma Richards-Randall converted an old-fashioned three-point play to help Waverly to an 18-14 advantage in the stanza, pulling the Wolverines even at 27-27 at the half.

Heise, who had seven points in the first half, scored 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, in the third quarter to fuel a 17-5 run that gave the Cadets a 44-32 lead entering the final eight minutes.

Heise was unstoppable in the fourth quarter with a trio of 3-pointers and 17 points in a 19-13 Holton quarter that sewed up the win.

Heise finished the game with 34 points, including five 3-pointers.

The Wolverines, ranked 18th in the latest Class B rankings, were led 18 points, including three 3-pointers, from Westbrook, and 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, by sophomore Ryleigh Judson.

Junior Kaitlyn Sutton added six points for Waverly, and freshman Lauryn Welles chipped in with four.

Waverly, now 11-1, will host Susquehanna Valley Saturday.
