NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: PELLICANO, TRUMP HIT CAREER MILESTONES IN SAYRE'S 64-30 WIN OVER SULLIVAN COUNTY (2025-01-20)
Valley Sports ReportSAYRE — It was a milestone night for Sayre basketball, which racked up a 64-30 win over Sullivan County, with senior Nick Pellicano netting his 1,000th career point, and senior Hudson Trump hauling down his 500th career rebound.
"It was just an incredible night for the progran," said Sayre coach Paul Blythe.
"It’s been so incredible to coach these two young men and tonight was a great individual effort along with their teammates who were just as excited and happy for them to make history.
"Tonight was Nick and Hudson’s night," added Blythe. "I couldn’t be more proud to coach them and I also couldn't be more proud for our program to have them as part of our Redskin Family."
The Redskins built a 13-point halftime lead, then blew the game wide open in the second half.
"We were able to play well tonight," said Blythe. "We didn't execute well, but were able to gather some long rebounds and hit some big shots.
"Karter Green is shooting the ball very well for us and canned two early 3s," he noted. "Mikey Griffin came in and hit three (3-pointers) for us, and Hudson Trump hit one for us as well ... we were really able to spread their defense out and, in turn, that was what allowed us to hit the boards and dominate the paint.
"We key off our defense and letting up just 30 points in four quarters is a tribute to how we play well together as a defense," added Blythe.
Pellicano scored six points in the first quarter, while junior Karter Green knocked down a pair of 3-pointers, and Trump added four points to lead Sayre to a 16-8 lead after the opening stanza.
Senior Mikey Griffin came off the bench to can a pair of 3-pointers, and score eight points int he second quarter, and Green added four points in a 16-11 spurt that upped the Redskin advantage to 32-19 at the half.
Pellicano scored six points in the third quarter, while Trump drained a 3-pointer and scored five points, and Griffin and sophomore Rommell Suba each added 3-pointers in a 19-7 run that stretched the Sayre lead to 51-26 entering the final eight minutes.
Pellicano and senior Ryan Ressler combined for all of Sayre's points in a 13-4 game-closing run.
Pellicano led Sayre with 20 points, four rebounds, five assists, and three steals, while Trump scored 11 points, pulled down 12 rebounds, and had three steals, and Griffin had 11 points, three rebounds, and one blocked shot.
Green scored 10 points, hauled down 12 rebounds, and had three assists, and three steals, while Ressler had five points, six rebounds, and one blocked shot, senior Theo Molina added four points and five assists, and senior Zach Senese chipped in with three assists and three steals.
