NTL WRESTLING: TOWANDA FLEXES MUSCLES IN BATTLE OF UNBEATENS; TOPS ATHENS, 51-15 (18 PHOTOS) (2025-01-22)

TOWANDA — Towanda flexed its muscles here Wednesday night in a battle on NTL wrestling unbeatens, posting a 51-15 win over Athens.

Towanda improves to 20-3 overall, and 7-0 in NTL matches, while Athens falls to 6-1, 6-1.

Jace Gunther gave the Black Knights a quick 3-0 lead with a 7-2 decision over junior Sean Peters at 160 pounds, and Chase Guerin made it 6-0 with a wild, 15-12, decision over sophomore Brendan Cooke.

Athens standout Connor Davidson tied the match at 189 pounds with a pin of Zach Lantz in 4:51, but Towanda picked up 23 points in the next four weight classes.

Unbeaten Towanda ace Sawyer Robinson scored a fall at 215, and Mason Higley, who is also unbeaten, scored a 22-6 technical fall of senior Caleb Nason to make it 17-6.

Consecutive Athens forfeits at 107 and 114 extended the Towanda lead to 29-6.

Sophomore Zaine Campbell stopped the bleeding momentarily with a dominating 19-3 technical fall at 121, and junior Lucas Persun followed with a 15-3 major decision at 127 to close the gap to 29-15, but the Black Knights would win the final four weight classes.

Gage Evans, at 133 pounds, and Riley Vanderpool, at 145, each scored falls for Towanda, and Reese SLuyter, at 139, and Rylee Sluyter, at 152, each scored technical falls to round of Towanda's scoring.

Athens returns to action this weekend at the Coal Cracker Tournament at Lehighton High School.
