NTL JV BOYS BASKETBALL: WHEELER SPARKS ATHENS RALLY IN 54-42 WIN OVER TOWANDA (2025-02-03)
Valley Sports ReportATHENS — Kam Wheeler triggered a big second half for Athens in a come-from-behind 54-42 win over Towanda here Friday night in NTL Large School Division junior varsity boys basketball action.
Towanda led 10-9 after the first quarter, and used a 12-8 spurt in the second quarter to take a 22-17 lead into the halftime locker room.
Wheeler knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points, and Aiden Vanderpool added five points to fuel a 17-2 third-quarter blitz that gave the Wildcats a 34-24 lead heading into the final seven minutes.
Wheeler hit two more 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, and Athens made all six of its free-throw attempts down the stretch to nail down the win.
Wheeler led Athens with 17 points, including five 3-pointers, while Lucas Schultz and Eli Hobday scored 10 points apiece, Vanderpool added seven points, and Dom Robbins chipped in with six points.
Graham Welles led Towanda with 10 points.
Athens, now 15-3, returns to action Wednesday at North Penn-Mansfield.
