NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: COWANESQUE VALLEY ROLLS TO 65-30 WIN OVER SAYRE (2025-02-04)
Valley Sports ReportWESTFIELD, Pa. — Cowanesque Valley got out to a quick start, then blew the game wide open int he third quarter of a 65-30 win over Sayre here Tuesday night in NTL Small School Division girls basketball action.
"We played our second game in as many nights with six girls, and three of them are sick," said Sayre coach Zach Senese. "They really stepped up regardless of the score."
The Indians raced out to a 23-6 lead in the opening stanza, but Sayre found its footing in the second quarter.
Senior Abbie McGaughey pumped in 12 points in the second quarter for the Redskins, but CV used a 16-15 scoring advantage to take a 39-21 lead into the halftime locker room.
CV used an 18-1 blitz in the third quarter to take a 57-22 in the final eight minutes.
Abbie McGaughey scored a career-high 20 points, grabbed five rebounds, and blocked one shot, while junior Rylee Lantz had four points, 12 rebounds, four assists, five blocked shots, and two steals, and freshman Reaghan McGaughey had four points, five rebounds, and one blocked shot.
"Abbie (McGaughey) had a good night with a career-high," said Senese. "And Rylee (Lantz) cleaned up on the boards, and blocked a bunch of shots."
Senior Morgan Hickey had two assists and steals for the Redskins, while McKenna Parrish had two boards and two steals, and junior Grace Russo hauled down five rebounds.
Ella Churchill led all scorers with 27 points, including 14 in the first quarter, and Ashley Woodring scored 16 points.
Sayre, now 2-16, returns to action Thursday at NEB.
