Valley Sports ReportTHE VALLEY — The Section IV, Division 2 individual wrestling championships kick off Saturday with Qualifiers at Oneonta and Unadilla Valley, while Waverly hosts Owego for an afternoon of basketball to benefit junior Daltton Davis, who was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, and the Valley Bowling Center hosts the IAC Championships.
WRESTLING
Tioga at Qualifier A, 9 a.m. @ Oneonta H.S.: The top six in each weight class will advance to next week's Section IV, Division 2 Championships.
Junior Jayden Duncanson (32-2) is the top seed at 138 pounds, and ophomore Declan McKee (25-3) is the top seed at 101 pounds, while junior Logan Bellis is the second seed at 124 pounds, and senior Tate MaCauley (17-11) is the second seed at 215 pounds.
Freshman James Howey (15-14) is the third seed at 190 pounds, while 8th-grader Parker Jackson (15-12) is the fourth seed at 116 pounds, freshman Mark McCane (19-11) is the fourth seed at 285 pounds, and 8th-grader Liamm Comstock (13-9) is the fifth seed at 108 pounds.
Junior Brayden MacWhinnie (4-7) will be competing at 131 pounds, sophomore Max Stauder (9-13) will wrestle in the 170-pound bracket, senior Austin Babcock (14-8) will wrestle at 215 pounds
Waverly at Qualifier B, 9 a.m. @ Unadilla Valley H.S.: The top six in each weight class will advance to next week's Section IV, Division 2 Championships.
Junior Cooper Robinson (33-5) is the top seed at 152 pounds, and junior Troy Beeman (31-3) is the top seed at 285 pounds, while freshman Drayton DeKay (28-4) is the top seed at 116 pounds, and sophomore Rhylee Stotler (33-5) is the second seed, and 8th-grader Avery Bowman (27-9) is the second seed at 108 pounds
Sophomore Caden Bradley (25-13) is the sixth seed at 131 pounds, and senior Jake Sinsabaugh (6-11) is the sixth seed at 101 pounds
Sophomore Parker Larson (20-17) is competing in the 160-pound bracket, while sophomore Joey Mack (16-14) will wrestle 145-pound bracket, Hudson Sink (2-6) will wrestle at 145 pounds.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Mount Carmel (17-3) at Athens (8-12), 1 p.m. JV start: The Wildcats are coming off a 71052 loss to division champs Troy, while Mount Carmel is coming off a 45-37 win over Southern Columbia.
Owego (9-6, 7-3 STAC Central) at Waverly (9-8, 3-6), 2:30 p.m. JV start: The Wolverines are coming off a 44-38 loss at Chenango Forks Tuesday, while the River Hawks dropped a 59-50 decision to Newfield Wednesday.
In their first meeting, Owego won at home, 49-44.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Owego (5-10, 2-8 STAC Central) at Waverly (14-2, 9-1), 11 a.m. JV start: The Wolverines, ranked 7th in the state in Class B, is coming off a 49-47 loss to Chenango Forks, ranked 21st, Wednesday, while the River Hawks dropped a 59-39 decision to Norwich.
In their first meeting, Waverly won at Owego, 50-35.
BOYS & GIRLS BOWLING
Tioga at IAC Championships, 1 p.m. @ VBC: The Tigers enter the event with the second-highest team average of 939 — second only to Candor's 948.
BOYSNick Slater leads Tioga this season with a 197 average, which is fifth in the IAC, and Austin Mumbulo with a 178, which is 14th. Garrett Godfrey is 19th with a 168.
GIRLSTioga's Kelsey Helmich is seventh in the IAC with a 164 average, while Selena LaFritz is eighth at 159, Liberty Magner is 15th at 138.
BOYS & GIRLS SWIMMING
Athens at Williamsport Invite, 10:30 a.m.: Senior Ethan Hicks, and sophomores Brayden Pettitt and Eli Hicks lead the Wildcats into the rugged annual invitational.
Juniors Evelyn Panek, Olivia Thompson, and Elizabeth Denlinger lead the Lady Wildcats into action.
INDOOR TRACK & FIELD
Waverly ar Section IV, Class B Championships, 11 a.m. @ Cornell Univ.: Junior Mackenzie Chamberlain and Haley Larrabee, and senior Harper Minaker lead the Waverly contingent into the Class sectionals.
