NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: MOUNT CARMEL PULLS AWAY IN FOURTH QUARTER OF 70-47 WIN OVER ATHENS (2025-02-08)
Valley Sports ReportATHENS — Mount Carmel used a big fourth quarter to blow open a close game en route to a 70-47 win over Athens here Saturday afternoon in non-league boys basketball action.
Junior Talon Baglini scored four points and junior Nick Grazul knocked down a 3-pointer for the Wildcats, but Mount Carmel led 16-12 after the first quarter.
Senior Troy Rosenbloom canned a 3-pointer and scored five points in the second quarter, while sophomore Lucas Schultz and senior Jase Babcock each scored four points as Athens cut into its with an 18-17 advantage in the stanza to close the gap to 36-33 at the halftime break.
The only field goals the Wildcats managed in the third quarter 3-pointers by Rosenbloom and junior Adam Kemp as Mount Carmel used a 12-8 spurt to extend its lead to 48-41 entering the fourth quarter.
The Red Tornadoes new the game open in the final eight minutes with a 25-9 blitz.
Rosenbloom led Athens with eight points, while Babcock and Schultz scored six points, Grazul, junior James Friend, Kemp, and sophomore Kam Wheeler added five points, and Baglini chipped in with four points.
Lazicki led Mount Carmel with 31 points.
Athens, now 8-13, wraps up the regular season Monday at Blue Ridge.
