STAC BOWLING: WAVERLY BOYS WIN FIRST LEAGUE TITLE; GIRLS FINISH SECOND IN END-OF-SEASON TOURNAMENT (2025-02-10)

VESTAL — The Waverly boys won a league title here Monday afternoon by the narrowest of margins, edging Elmira by four pins at STAC Bowling Championships at Midway Lanes.

The Waverly girls placed second in the STAC End-of-Season Tournament, and Waverly JV boys were second in the Junior Varsity Championships.

The STAC pits the division champs against each other in the STAC Championships, while the rest of the teams bowl in an end-of-the-season tournament.

WAVERLY BOYS WIN FIRST STAC TITLE
Sophomore Maison Apgar banged out a 700 series, and freshman Griff Walter came off the bench to roll two big games as Waverly edged Elmira by a total-pinfall count of 3,155 to 3151. Maine-Endwell was third with 3,083.

The Wolverines were behind Elmira by 146 pins, and M-E by 106 after the first two games.

Elmira rolled games of 1,102 and 1,071 in the first two games, compared to Waverly's 980 and 1,047, and M-E's 1.094 and 1,039.

Waverly finished with an 1,128, while Elmira rolled a 978, and M-E shot a 950.

Apgar rolled a 725 series on games of 221, 266, and 238, while junior Derek Johnson shot a 652 on games of 227, 198, and 227.

Walter came off the bench after sitting out the first game to fire games of 224 and 225.

Senior Dom Wood shot a 595 series, including games of 215 and 221, and 8th-grader Colten Santalucia had a 576 series, including games of 159, 200, and 217.

Junior Tristan Campbell tacked on a 158.

JV BOYS PLACE SECOND IN LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Camden Leary rolled a 600 series to lead Waverly to a second-place finish in the JV Championships.

Waverly had a three-game set of 2,626, while Corning won the team title with a 2,685.

Leary rolled a 600 on the nose on games of 213, 193, and 194, while Cameron Wood shot a 540, including a 302, and Nate Andrews-Lason also shot a 540.

Brayden Chilson added a 499 for the Wolverines, and Quentin Goose tacked on a 447.

WAVERLY GIRLS PLACE SECOND IN END-OF-SEASON TOURNAMENT
Freshman Karis Hayes paced Waverly in a second-place finish at the STAC End-of-Season Tournament.

U-E won the End-of-Season Tournament with a three-game set of 2,546, while Waverly tallied 2,434, and third-place Corning had 2,393.

Hayes shot a 581 series on games of 181, 194, and 206, while 8th-grader Ariel Houseknecht shot a 540, and freshman Rylie Witman shot a 486.

Senior Serenity Conklin added a 450 series, and 8th-grader Aby Apgar tacked on a 377.

Waverly returns to action Feb. 21-22 at the Section IV Class Championships.
