NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: SAYRE DROPS SEASON FINALE AT WELLSBORO (12 PHOTOS) (2025-02-12)

WELLSBORO — Wellsboro took a five-point lead, and pulled away for a 46-17 win over Sayre in the season finale here Wednesday night in NTL girls basketball action.

"It's truly been an honor to be with these girls," said Sayre coach Matt Senese. "hey fought so hard ... they truly mean so very much to the  coaches, school, community and family.

"We wouldn't trade them for the world," he added.

The Hornets led 9-4 at the end of the first quarter, and used an 11-6 second-quarter spurt to take a 20-10 lead into the halftime locker room

Senior Abbie McGaughey scored eight points in the first half for the Redskins, including a 4-for-4 performance from the free-throw line.

Wellsboro stretched its lead to 15 with an 8-3 third-quarter run, and closed the game with an 18-4 blitz in the fourth quarter.

Junior Rylee Lantz scored five of Sayre's seven-half points.

McGaughey led Sayre with 10 points, three rebounds, three steals, and one blocked shot, while Lantz had five points and nine rebounds, and junior Liz Hunter had two assists and two blocked shots.

Paige Logsdon led Wellsboro with 14 points and Chloe Brandenburg added 11 points.

Sayre wraps the 2024-25 campaign with a 2-20 mark.
