COLLEGE WRESTLING: TIOGA GRAD ROE WINS TITLE AT MIDEAST FUTURES INVITE (2025-02-24)

EWING TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Tioga grad Tyler Roe, a freshman on the Stevens Tech wrestling team, went 4-0 Saturday to win the 157-pound title at the MidEast Futures Invite here on the campus of The College of New Jersey.

Roe forged a 17-5 major decision over Gettysburg's Ean Wilson in the opening round. Roe scored three first-period takedown and led 10-4 after the opening three minutes.

He added takedowns with 9 seconds remaining in the second period, and 16 seconds remaining in the third period, sandwiched around an escape early in the third period, to provide the final margin.

In the quarterfinals, Roe pinned McDaniel's Nicholas Massengill in 1:26.

Roe decked Wilkes College's Connor Sklavounos in 1:11 in the semifinals. Roe scored a takedown, and a two point tilt before finishing off the fall.

In the finals, Roe beat Stevens Tech teammate Tyler Venet, 11-4.

After a scoreless first period, Venet scored a quick escape and a takedown for a 4-0 lead, but Roe countered with a reversal and three near-fall points to take a 5-4 lead into the third period.

Roe recorded an escaped a minute into the third period, then hit a five point move with 45 seconds remaining to extend his lead to 11-4.

Roe is 24-15 on the season.
