NEW YORK STATE WRESTLING: WAVERLY QUINTET, TIOGA DUO SET FOR ACTION AT DIVISION 2 CHAMPIONSHIPS (2025-02-27)
Valley Sports ReportALBANY — Waverly will have five wrestlers, including defending state champion Troy Beeman, and Tioga will have two — returning state-finishers junior Jayden Duncanson and sophomore Declan McKee — competing this weekend at the New York State Division 2 Wrestling Championships here at the MVP Arena.
Beeman will be joined by junior Cooper Robinson, sophomore Rhylee Stotler, freshman Drayton DeKay, and 8th-grader Avery Bowman.
Duncanson, a returning state runner-up, and McKee, who finished third last year, represent a Tioga program that won its fifth straight team title here last year, and had 10 medal-winners.
Beeman (36-3), the defending 285-pound state champ, is the top seed at 285, and will receive a bye into the round-of-16. He will face the winner of opening-round bout between 16th-seeded Connor Young (8-2) of Ogdensburg and 17th-seeded Nick Oosterom (19-5) of Port Jervis.
McKee (31-2) is the top seed at 101 pounds, and will receive a bye into the round-of-16. He will face the winner of the match between 16th-seeded Mason Sample (30-8) of Nanuet and 17th-seed Quid Lloyd (29-8) of Eagle Academy.
Duncanson (38-2) is the third seed in a rugged 138-pound bracket, and receives a bye into the round-of-16. He will face the winner of the bout between 14th-seeded Grayson Eggleston (34-2) and 19th-seeded Markus Ferrara (25-13) of Port Jervis.
Robinson (39-5) is the third seed in the 152-pound bracket, and will receive a bye into the round-of-16. He will face the winner of the match between 14th-seeded Bryce Dellapente (37-8) of Eden and 19th-seeded Kyle Reif (33-9) Of Northern Adirondack.
DeKay (35-4) is the third seed at 116 pounds, and will receive a bye into the round-of-16. He will face the winner of the opening-round match between 14th-seeded Brendan Fox (28-11) and 19th-seeded Daniel Boolean (10-10) of Malone.
Stotler (37-8) is the eighth seed, and will face ninth-seeded Braiden Salter (39-1) of Wayne in the round-of-16.
Eighth-grader Avery Bowman (32-11) is the 11th seed in the 108-pound bracket, and will face 14th-seeded Miles Torres (31-4) of Southwestern in the opening round.
Also wrestling from the area are Newark Valley seniors Trevor Middendorf and Austin DeBolt, and Owego senior Bobby Struble and sophomore Dylan Brace.
