SECTION IV BOYS BOWLING: TIOGA COMPETES IN STATE QUALIFIER (2025-02-27)

WAVERLY — Tioga’s entire team competed in the Section IV Division 2 Boys Bowling State Qualifier at Valley Bowling Center here Thursday.

The Tigers placed sixth in the 8-team event with a 9-game total of 8597, besting the other two IAC entries, Candor (8359) and Union Springs/Port Byron (8343). The Coyotes rolled a 2864 at the class sectionals last week, then started off the qualifier with a 2813 in the morning session and closed out the day with a 2920.

Nick Slater, who competed last year as an individual, led Tioga with an 1862 total, good for 12th place in the challenge for a spot on the 7-man Composite team. He posted a 650 at sectionals, then followed up with a 643 and 569 at the qualifier.

Garrett Godfrey and Charles Holmes battled down to the wire for the No. 2 finish on the Tigers’ roster. Godfrey shot 577 and 551 before finishing out with a 589 for a 1717 overall score. Holmes, who rolled 555 and 552, wrapped up his season with a 608 in the afternoon, giving him a 1715 total.

James Luther, who scored 554 at sectionals, shook off a rough start of 494 in the qualifier, closing the day with a 621 for a 1669 series. Austin Mumbulo rounded out the team scoring with a 528, 573 and 533 for a 1634 series.

Waverly won the team title for the third straight year.
