ON TAP TODAY: WRESTLING TAKES CENTER STAGE OF BUSY DAY OF POSTSEASON ACTION (2025-02-28)

THE VALLEY — A huge day of postseason action as New York State wrestling, and the PIAA Class 3A and AA North East Regionals take center stage. There is also the Section IV girls bowling State Qualifier, and Waverly opens play at home in the Section IV boys basketball playoffs.

WRESTLING
New York State Division 2 Championships, 10 a.m. @ MVP Arena, Albany: Waverly have five wrestlers in action at the Division 2 Championships, including reigning 285-pound state champ junior Troy Beeman. Also in action will be junior Cooper Robinson, sophomore Rhylee Stotler, freshman Drayton DeKay, and 8th-grader Avery Bowman.

Tioga will have a pair of returning state place-finishers in action in junior Jayden Duncanson and sophomore Declan McKee.

Class AAA North East Regionals, 5 p.m. @ Bethlehem-Liberty H.S.: Athens will have nine wrestlers in action, but will be without one of its two District 4 Champions Zaine Campbell, who suffered a season-injury season this week.

Class AA North East Regionals, 5 p.m. @ Williamsport H.S.: Sayre sophomore Jordan Brown is the lone Valley competitor at the Class AA Championships.

BOYS BASKETBALL
Section IV Playoffs
Class B Quarterfinals
7-Watkins Glen (8-10) at 2-Waverly (11-9): The Wolverines are coming off a 58-57 win over Windsor 15 days ago, while the Lake Hawks dropped a 69-44 decision at Candor nine days ago.

GIRLS BOWLING
Section IV State Qualifier, 9 a.m. @ Valley Bowling Center: The Tioga girls will compete for a team berth in the Division 2 state tournament, while Waverly senior Serenity Conklin and Karis Hayes will vie for a spot on the Section IV individual team.
