NEW YORK STATE WRESTLING: TIOGA'S DUNCANSON PLACES FOURTH FOR FOURTH CAREER STATE PLACE-FINISH (15 PHOTOS) (2025-03-01)
By TIM BIRNEYValley Sports ReportALBANY — Tioga junior Jayden Duncanson earned his fourth career state place-finish here Saturday, winning a fourth-place medal in the 138-pound weight class at the New York State Division 2 Wrestling Championships at the MVP Arena.
"Jayden was battling through some things this weekend, and I thought today was a lot better day than yesterday," said Tioga coach Kris Harrington.
"It's not the outcome we wanted, so we'll shut it down for a week or two, then we'll reassess and get ready for his senior year.
"He's a four-time state place-finisher as a junior, that's extremely impressive," added Harrington.
Duncanson, the third seed, finished third as an 8th-grader and a freshman, and was runner-up last year.
He's a great young kid, and I'm hurting for him," said Harrington. "It's not what he wanted ... he's trying, kids don't lose on purpose.
"We just have to make some adjustments, some things became very clear to us," added Harrington. "We need to clean up for next year, and we're going to do that."
Duncanson opened his day with a 9-6 win over Pal-Mac's Zach Rooks in the blood round, then beat Collegiate School's Saca Macadam, 7-1, in the consolation quarterfinals.
Duncanson locked in his patented cradle a couple times in a 16-3 major decision win over Homer's Hunter Lines in the consolation semifinals.
In the third-place match, Lansing's Owen Clark, who avenged a pair of Section IV postseason losses to Duncanson with a 6-2 win in the quarterfinals, beat Duncanson again with a 6-1 decision.
Duncanson wraps up the season with a 42-4 record.
