ROCHESTER — Waverly grad Sidney Tomasso has been named the Empire 8 Women's Basketball "Player of the Year" for the second consecutive season.

Tomasso, also an All-Empire 8 first-team selection for a third straight season, is the first two-time Empire 8 Player of the Year in St. John Fisher women's basketball history.

Tomasso ended her career with five double-doubles in her last six games.

In her senior season, Tomasso average 19.2 points, 9.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.8 steals per game.

She shot 38.7 percent from the field, and 35.3 percent (55 of 156) from 3-point range, as well as 86.5 percent (147 of 170) from the free-throw line.

Tomasso also led the Empire 8 with 12 double-doubles, a figure that currently ranks 26th nationally. She scored 20 or more points in 12 games and at least 15 in 22 games.

Tomasso had the best performance of her collegiate career in a 70-67 victory over SUNY Brockport on Feb. 8, as she scored 32 points and collected 17 rebounds. Her 32 points marked the ninth-most in a single game in St. John Fisher history, while her 17 boards marked the sixth-most.

For her career, Tomasso averaged 14.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.6 steals per game in 110 games played, including 109 starts.

She finished with 1,632 points, which is fourth all-time in school history, 566 field goals, which is fifth all-time, and 166 3-pointers, which is also fifth all-time. She also had 689 career rebounds.

Tomasso shot 85.6 percent from the free-throw line in her career, which ranked third all-time in program history.
