YOUTH WRESTLING: ATHENS ADVANCES SIX, SAYRE ONE TO PJW STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS (2024-03-03)
Valley Sports ReportKINGSLEY, Pa. — Six Athens and one Sayre youth wrestlers advanced from the recent Area XII PJW State Qualifier at Mountain View High School to the PJW Youth State Championships later this month in Harrisburg.
Athens youth wrestlers competed at the Area XII PJW State Qualifier this past weekend in Kingsley, Pa. The Wildcats advanced 6 youth wrestlers to the PJW Youth State Championships in Harrisburg, PA next month March 20-22nd
It's the third straight year Athens will send six wrestler to the state tournament.
Athens was led by three weight class champions in Beau Hall (10U — 150 pounds), Silas Bennett (12U — 80 pounds), and Ned MacBride (12U — 145 pounds).
Also advancing for Athens were Driver Jennings (runner-up 12U – 85 pounds) and Jacob Cobb (third-place 12U — 90 pounds).
Sayre’s Christian Hiralez won the 12U 75-pound championship.
Athens' Sophia Barrett capped off the weekend capturing the Girls 12U 84-pound title. She advances to the State Championships for the third year in a row, after finishing fourth in 2023 and as runner-up last year.
The PJW State Championships are slated for March 20-22.
