ARCHERY: FOURTH-GRADER BEACH LEADS SIX WAVERLY ARCHERS IN TOP 10 AT STATES (2025-03-11)
Valley Sports ReportCHEMUNG — Waverly had six archers finish in the top-10 of their field here March 1 at the Wolverine 3D Tournament here at the Chemung Innovation Center.
The Wolverine 3D Tournament was one of three held in New York, instead of the state hosting one big tournament for all of New York. Waverly hosted four schools, including elementary grades 4-5, middle school grades 6-8, and high school grades 9-12.
Fourth-grader Easton Beach shot a 266 out of 300, which landed him first place in New York State. He is ranked 65th in the Nation out of 3,605 archers.
"This is a huge accomplishment," said Waverly coach Mark Bakley. "I see big things for Easton in his future, if he continues to compete in this sport for another eight years."
Eleventh-grader Ava Witman took fourth place in the state tournament with a score of 271, which tied with Stella Conte of St. Joseph By The Sea.
Darrell Dragoo placed fifth, while first-year shooter Riley Sindoni placed sixth, 7th-grader Sawyr Lyons placed seventh, and fourth-grader Beau Bauman placed eighth.
The top 10 scores — male and female — of each team qualify to compete in Louisville May 8-10.

Eitghteen of the 33 Wolverines will be competing this Friday in Syracuse at the New York State Bulls Eye Tournament at the Syracuse Fairgrounds, along with approximately 800 other archers from around the state.
"This sport is growing and the state adopted a new approach, which other states have also adopted, as numbers increase they can’t have a single-day tournament," said Bakley. "This year, all teams had to compete in a regional qualifier tournament in which kids either shot a high enough score to compete or your team had a enough points to qualify to take the entire team to the state tournament.
“It’s been a great year and kids are still trying to figure somethings out, but we will continue to represent the 'W' and do the best we can, while having as much fun doing it as it's a long season.
"We start shooting in October and our Nationals aren’t until May, so it’s hard to stay engaged with everything else going on," added Bakley.
