ATHENS —  The Athens Wildcats Youth Basketball League (AWYBA), a local non-profit organization that provides basketball opportunities for first- through sixth-grade students in the Athens Area School District, capped off its most successful season over the past two weekends at the annual NTL King of the Court and Queen of the Court tournaments.

Both the King of the Court Tournament and Queen of the Court Tournament host the area teams from the local NTL youth league for grades three through six. Each division has between six and eight teams in Bradford County and Upstate New York.

On March 9, the three AWYBA boys teams competed in the King of the Court Tournament in Towanda. The teams went 10-0 on the day, capturing all three titles.

The third- and fouth-grade boys team went 4-0 on the day, securing the championship with a 34-15 win over Towanda. The fifth-grade boys team went 3-0 on the day, with a championship win of 32-10 over NEB.

Lastly, the sixth-grade boys secured a convincing 41-16 win over Troy to cap a 3-0 on the day and capture the crown of the highest division.

On March 16-17, the AWYBA hosted the Queen of the Court Tournament, sponsored by Williams Auto Group in Athens.

The three girls teams went 12-0 on the weekend, again sweeping all three titles.

The third- and fourth-grade girls team went 4-0 on Saturday, securing the championship with a 26-12 victory over Grace Christian.

The sixth-grade girls followed, winning a come-from-behind 22-12 decision in the championship game against Towanda.

On Sunday, the fifth-grade girls captured the final title of the weekend with a 22-4 victory over Towanda.

The AWYBA finished the season with a combined NTL youth league record of 103-1, and an overall record of 123-15. Over the past two years, the AWYBA teams have now won 11 of 12 NTL Championship trophies and amassed a record of 251-34.
