NTL SOFTBALL: COWANESQUE VALLEY BLOWS GAME OPEN LATE IN 16-4 WIN OVER SAYRE (2025-04-01)
Valley Sports ReportSAYRE — Cowanesque Valley plated nine runs in the top of the sixth inning to blow open a close game in a 16-4 win over Sayre here Tuesday afternoon in NTL Small School Division softball action.
CV turned a pair of Sayre errors into a run in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead, but the Redskins answered with an unearned run in the home half of the inning.
The Indians loaded the bases on a pair of walks and a one-out single, but Sayre starter Raegan Parrish escaped with just a run scoring to make it 2-1.
CV scored a run in the top of the third on a wild pitch to extend its lead to 4-1, but the Redskins answered with two runs.
Kayleigh Winiavski walked to lead off the winning, and junior Olivia Thompson followed with a hard-hit single up the middle to put runners on first and second.
Freshman McKenna Parrish lined a single into center field that was mishandled, allowing Winiavski and Thompson to score to close the gap to 4-3.
CV turned three Sayre errors and a triple into three runs in the top of the fourth inning to push its lead to 7-3.
Sayre scored an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth inning to trim the deficit to 7-4, but the Indians took advantage of three base on balls and three more Redskin errors — and four hits — to take a 16-4 lead and bring the 10-run rule into play.
The Redskins were retired in order in the bottom of the sixth to end the game.
Thompson singled and scored two runs, while senior Raegan Parrish singled and scored one run, and McKenna Parrish, and senior Abbie McGaughey each singled to account for Sayre's five hits.
Raegan Parrish allowed seven earned runs on eight hits, while striking out seven and walking five in 5 2/3 innings. The Redskin defense committed eight errors in the contest.
Sayre, now 1-5, return to action Thursday at unbeaten Athens.
