STAC SOFTBALL: WAVERLY ROLLS OVER NORWICH, 20-1 (2025-04-03)
Valley Sports ReportNORWICH — Waverly scored in every inning on its way to a 20-1 win over Norwich here Thursday afternoon in STAC softball action.
"(Brinn) Cooney worked through a few tough spots tonight and the defense played well," said Waverly coach Brent Doane. "It seemed to take a while to get our bats going.
At the plate Maddie Cron had a big night," added Doane. "And, Paige Bubniak (second base), Lecksie Douglas (shortstop) and Maddie Cron (third base) played outstanding defense."
The Wolverines scored one run in the first inning, two in the second, and three in the third to take an 8-0 lead.
Waverly led 11-1 after six games, then erupted for nine runs in the seventh.
Senior Brinn Cooney was the recipient of the offensive onslaught. She allowed one run on five hits, while striking out five and walking four.
Ayla Wheeler singled three times, scored two runs, and had three RBI
Junior Maddie Cron homered and doubled, scored two runs, and drove in two runs, while 8th-grader Taylin Gonzalez singled twice and scored one run, and 7th-grader Paige Bubniak singled, scored four runs, and drove in one run to pace Waverly seven-hit attack.
Sophomore Kaiya Horton doubled, scored one run, and knocked in one run in the win, while sophomore Hannah Carpenter singled, scored one run, and had one RBI, Cooney walked five times and scored three runs, sophomore Meghan Apgar scored three runs, sophomore Lecksie Douglas scored two runs, and junior Delaney Wheeler crossed the plate once.
Waverly, now 2-0, hosts Seton Catholic Monday at 5 p.m.
