NTL TRACK & FIELD: ATHENS BOYS, GIRLS POST BIG WINS OVER CANTON (24 PHOTOS) (2025-04-08)
Valley Sports ReportATHENS — Junior Ryan Cook and sophomore Graham Wanck each won three events to lead the Athens boys to a lopsided win over Canton, while the Lady Wildcats also posted a win in NTL track & field action here on a frigid Tuesday afternoon.
The Athens boys won 15 of 16 events in a 101-21 win over Canton.
The Athens girls topped the Warriors, 70-49.
The meet was originally scheduled to include Troy and North Penn-Mansfield, but both teams dropped out of the meet Tuesday due to the cold.
BOYS
Athens 101, Canton 21Joining Cook and Wanck on the top step of the podium were double-winners seniors Lucius Mickley and Ronel Ankam, and junior Brenden Comstock.
Cook led a sweep in the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.89 seconds, with senior Brayden Onofre second in 12.94 seconds, and Mickley was third in 12.99 seconds.
Cook won the 200-meter dash in 25.18 seconds, and sophomore Ryder Morley was second in 25.33 seconds.
Cook, Onofre, Mickley, and Morley teamed to win the 400-meter relay in a time of 46.71 seconds.
Wanck won the 1,600-meter run in a time of 4:47.62, and sophomore Jacob Shores was third in 5:22.34.
Wanck led a sweep in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:18.57, while sophomore Matt Rossettie was second in 2:22.5, and sophomore Lucas Person was third in 2:32.23.
Wanck, Persun, Rossettie, and Shores teamed to win the 3,200-meter relay in a time of 9:42.78.
Ankam won the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 19.59 seconds.
Ankam won the 300-meter hurdles in a mite of 47.21 seconds.
Junior Sean Peters won the 400-meter dash in a time of 56.54 seconds, while freshman Patrick Umber was second in 57.05 seconds, and Cook was third in 57.41 seconds.
Comstock won the shot put with a heave of 38-feet, and senior Caleb Nason was second at 33-feet, 1 1/2-inches.
Comstock won the discus with a toss of 139-feet, 9-inches, and Nason was second at 118-feet, 8-inches.
Mickley won the long jump with a leap of 17-feet, 11-inches, and senior Peter Jones was second at 17-feet, 6 3/4-iches.
Jones won the triple jump with a mark of 33-feet, 7 1/2-inches.
Nason finished second in the javelin with a throw of 99-feet, 9-inches.
GIRLS
Athens 70, Canton 49Juniors Abby Burgess and Lizzie Gorsline, and senior Sara Bronson each won two events in the wingover the Warriors.
Burgess won the 100-meter dash in 13.31 seconds, and senior Gretchen Schmieg was third in 14.69 seconds.
Burgess won the 200-meter dash in 27.39 seconds, and Schmieg was third in 30.18 seconds.
Gorsline led a sweep in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 19.21 seconds, while senior Addy Wheeler was second in 19.74 seconds, and sophomore Hannah Parrish was third at 20.39 seconds.
Gorsline won the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 52.61 seconds, while Wheeler was second in 56.36 seconds, and Parrish was third in 58.39 seconds.
Bronson led a sweep in the 1,600-meter run in a time of 5:52.34, while freshman Alissa Vough was second in 6:04.06, and junior Ava Hughes was third in 6:39.26.
Bronson led a sweep in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:36.09, while Vough was second in 2:39.05, and Hughes was third in 3:02.26.
Senior Emma Renninger won the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:11.46, and freshman Tatyana Nasser was second in 1:14.72.
Grace Ellsworth, Hailey Brinkley, Haylie Horton and junior Fiona Coniglio teamed to win the 3,200-meter relay in a time of 13:50.82.
Senior Hannah Earls finished second in the discus with a toss of 84-feet, 8-inches, and sophomore Abby Wagner was third at 76-feet, 2-inches.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Leonard finished second in the long jump with a leap of 14-feet. 1/2-inch.
Wagner finished third in the shot put with a heave of 26-feet, 10 1/2-inches.
Sophomore Mya Smith finished third in the javelin with a throw of 72-feet, 1-inch.
Athens returns to action Friday at the Northwest Rangers Relays.
