ALBRECHT HITS POLE VAULT SUPER STANDARD, PUNCHES TICKET TO STATESValley Sports ReportMARATHON — Senior Andrew Earley was a double-winner, and junior Gavin Albrecht, also a double-winner, hit the Class C Super Standard in the pole vault here Monday at the Marathon Spring Fling to qualify for the New York State Track & Field Championships in June.
The Tioga boys finished second in the 10-team field, and double-winner freshman Vida Rossi led the Lady Tigers to a fourth-place finish.
"It's really our first meet where we've had some decent weather," said Tioga coach Eric Gutierrez. "I'm quite proud of our team.
"We have some kids coming off of minor injuries and several who are sick, and yet most performed at or very near their best," added Gutierrez.
TIGERS FINISH SECOND AT MARATHON SPRING FLINGAlbrecht cleared the bar at 13-feet, 9-inches to easily top the state standard of 13-feet, 3-inches, and meet the super standard of 13-9, which automatically qualifies him for the Class C Championships.
Senior Ryan Chamberlain finished third at 10-feet, 6-inches.
Albrecht also won the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.81 seconds, while senior Kam Joyce was 13th in 13.02 seconds, junior Jayden Duncanson was 14th in 13.12 seconds, and senior Dominick Ocasio was 16th in 13.24 seconds.
Earley won the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 16.27 seconds, while Chamberlain was fourth in 18.45 seconds, and sophomore Elijah Bellis was fifth in 18.54 seconds.
Earley also won the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:00.51, while junior James Miller was third at 1:06.52, and Chamberlain was fifth in 1:09.14.
Earley finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 39-feet, 4-inches, and junior Talon Wood was 11th at 30-feet, 4 1/2-inches.
Wood won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 12:04.27.
Albrecht teamed with Miller, Duncanson and junior Jayden Duncanson to finish second in a time of 48.04 seconds.
Sophomore Shane Platukis finished second in the discus with a throw of 90-feet, 4-inches, while sophomore Markel Watkins was fourth at 86-feet, 4-inches, sophomore Bailey Rugh was ninth at 76-feet, 8-inches, and freshman Jason Rifenburg was 15th at 65-feet, 6-inches.
Senior Trevor Wheeler finished third in the 400-meter dash in a time of 56.19 seconds, and Ocasio was 13th in 1:00.65.
Wheeler finished fourth in the 200-meter dash in a time of 25.33 seconds, while Ocasio was 10th in 26.44 seconds.
Palmer finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 18-feet, 9 1/2-inches, and Albrecht was sixth at 18-feet, 3 1/4-inches.
Sophomore Alen Winans finished fifth in the high jump at 5-feet, 4-inches, and Palmer was eighth in 5-feet, 2-inches.
Rugh finished ninth in the shot put with a heave of 31-feet, 1-inch, while Watkins was 11th in 30-feet, 5 1/2-inhces, Platukis was 13th in 30-feet, 1 1/4-inches, and Rifenburg was 15th in 29-feet, 10 3/4-inches.
Sophomore Caden Rapp finished 12th in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:30.72
LADY TIGERS FINISH FOURTH ST SPRING FLINGFreshman Vida Rossi won the 100-meter dash in a time of 13.67 seconds, while 8th-grader Grace Howey was fourth in 14.29 seconds, junior Ava Smolinski was seventh in 14.76 seconds, and 8th-grader Natalie Kemp was 11th in 14.83 seconds.
Rossi, Howey, Smolinski, and junior Mia Hall teamed to win the 400-meter dash in a time of 54.07 seconds.
Rossi placed second in the long jump with a leap of 15-feet, 3/4-inch, and Smolinski was fourth at 13-feet, 3 1/4-inches.
Sophomore Sadie Marshall finished third in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 18.68 seconds, and freshman Amber Bennett was sixth at 21.54 seconds.
Marshall also finished third in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:18.31, and Bennett was fifth at 1:25.99.
Sophomore Amelia Toomey placed fourth in the shot put with a heave of 23-feet, 6 1/2-inches, while sophomore Sara Prough was 10th at 21-feet, 4 1/2-inches, and sophomore Kendall Ward was 18th at 17-feet, 9 1/2-inches.
Hall placed sixth in the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:08.81, while Bennett was 13th in 1:16.62
Kemp and Howey finished tied for eighth in the 200-meter dash in a time of 30.9 seconds.
Bennett finished ninth in the triple jump with a mark of 23-feet, 7 1/2-inches.
Toomey finished ninth in the discus with a toss of 66-feet, 6-inches, and Ward was 15th at 57-feet, 10-inches.
Sophomore Serenity Relyear finished 11th in the 800-meter run in a time of 3:16.33. She finished 14th in the high jump at 4-feet.
Tioga returns to action April 29 when it hosts Newfield and S-VE at Haggerty Field.
