NTL TRACK & FIELD: BURGESS LEADS ATHENS GIRLS TO WIN; ATHENS BOYS ALSO TOP TOWANDA (24 PHOTOS) (2025-04-15)
Valley Sports ReportATHENS — Junior Abby Burgess won four events to lead the Lady Wildcats to a narrow win over Towanda, while the Athens boys had multiple double-winners to top the Black Knights here Tuesday afternoon in NTL track & field action at Alumni Stadium.
GIRLS
Athens 101.5, Towanda 96.5, Williamson 51, Sayre 13Seniors Sara Bronson and Gretchen Schmieg, and juniors Lizzie Gorsline and Elizabeth Denlinger were also multiple-winners for the Wildcats, who also won two events apiece.
"All in all a good meet for our girls," said Athens coach Mike Bronson. "The weather didn't really cooperate with us again, but we had a really good, competitive meet.
"Sara (Bronson), Abby (Burgess), and Lizzie (Gorsline) all had strong meets again, the three of them are really consistent performers for us.
"Elizabeth Denlinger had a really nice meet as well, winning high jump and pole vault and then tried the long jump for the first time and ended up third," added Bronson.
Burgess won the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.89 seconds, and Schmieg was fourth in 14.32 seconds.
Burgess won the 200-meter dash in a time of 27.81 seconds, while freshman Marlene Roelle was third at 31.26 seconds, and senior Annalise Geisinger was fourth in 31.27 seconds.
Burgess teamed with Schmieg, Geisinger, and freshman Ella Marhefka to win the 400-meter relay in a time of 54.18 seconds.
Burgess teamed with Schmieg, senior Emma Renninger and junior Lizzie Gorsline to win the 1,600-meter relay in a time of 4:32.85.
Bronson won the 1,600-meter run in a time of 5:31.95, while freshman Alissa Vough was third in 5:44.0, and junior Ava Hughes was fourth in 6:01.37.
Bronson won the 3,200-meter run in a time of 11:44.47, while Vough was third in 12:47.78, and Hughes was fourth in 12:52.96.
Gorsline won the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 50.23 seconds.
Gorsline placed second in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 17.13 seconds. She was third in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:45.6.
Denlinger won the pole vault at 8-feet, and Renninger was fourth at 7-feet.
Denlinger won the high jump at 4-feet, 6-inches. She was third in the long jump with a leap of 13-feet, 3-inches.
Senior Hannah Earls won the discus with a toss of 79-feet, 1-inch.
Renninger was second in the 400-meter dash in 1:09.9.
BOYS
Athens 110, Towanda 85, Williamson 41, Sayre 11Sophomores Matt Rossettie, Jacob Shores, and Lucas Persun, and Ryder Morley, and junior Ryan Cook were double-winners to lead the Wildcats to a win.
Rossettie won the 800-meter run in a time of 2:19.68, while Shores was second at 2:22.49, and junior Ryan Howard was fourth at 2:27.8.
Shores won the 1,600-meter run in a time of 5:08.67, while Persun was second at 5:10.14, and Rossettie was third in 5:10.47.
Persun won the 3,200-meter run in a time of 11:21.17, while sophomore Alex Arcesi was second at 11:35.12, and Shores was fourth in 11:53.08.
Rossettie, Shores, and Persun teamed with sophomore Graham Wanck to win the 3,200-meter relay in a time of 9:18.43.
Junior Chase Ingram won the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 19.85 seconds. He was third in the pole vault at 9-feet, 6-inches.
Babcock won the high jump, clearing the bar at 6-feet, and Ingram was fourth in 4-feet, 10-inches.
Cook and Morley teamed with junior Connor Garrison, and sophomore Chris Moore to win the 400-meter relay in a time of 49.8 seconds.
Cook and Morley teamed with junior Sean Peters and freshman Patrick Umber to win the 1,600-meter relay in a time of 3:59.0.
Cook placed second in the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.14 seconds, and Morley was third in 12.32 seconds
Cook was also second in the 200-meter dash in a time of 24.19 seconds.
Umber was second in the 400-meter dash in a time of 55.98 seconds, and Peters was third in 56.06 seconds.
Hicks finished second in the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 50.5 seconds. He was third in the javelin with a throw of 115-feet.
Howard was second in the triple jump at 29-feet, 4-inches.
Senior Caleb Nason was second in the discus with a heave of 110-feet, 1-inch.
