IAC BASEBALL: TIOGA STRIKES EARLY IN 13-3 FIVE-INNING WIN OVER MARATHON (12 PHOTOS) (2025-04-16)
Valley Sports ReportTIOGA CENTER — Tioga plated six runs in the bottom of the first inning, and cruised to a 13-3 five-inning win over Marathon here Wednesday afternoon in IAC Small School baseball action.
The Olympians drew first blood with an unearned run in the top of the first inning, but an RBI single by junior Cooper Dember and a two-run single by Nick Slater highlighted Tioga's first-inning rally that put them ahead 6-1.
Sophomore Josh Rought and senior Garrett Godfrey hit back-to-back RBI singles in the second to make it 8-1.
The Tigers added two more runs in the third and fourth innings to extend their lead to 12-1.
Marathon closed the gap to 12-3 after 4 1/2 innings, but Tioga scored in the home half of the fifth to end the game via the 10-run "mercy" rule.
Rought earned the win, allowing three runs — one earned — on three hits in five innings of work. He fanned eight and walked four.
Dember singled twice, scored two runs, and drove in two runs, while Rought singled twice, scored three runs, and knocked in one run, senior Shea Bailey singled twice and scored two runs, sophomore Jackson Bombard doubled and singled, and scored one run, and junior Jackson Varner singled twice and scored one run to pace Tioga's 13-hit attack.
Godfrey singled, scored one run, and had two RBI in the win, while Slater singled and drove in two runs, sophomore Gavin Kithcart singled and knocked in one run, Kaiden Sindoni scored two runs, and drove in one run, and Max Paugh had one RBI and one run scored.
Tioga, now 4-0, returns to action Thursday at Moravia.
