NTL BASEBALL: STRONG PITCHING CARRIES ATHENS TO WINS OVER TOWANDA, EDISON IN SAME DAY (2025-04-19)
Valley Sports ReportATHENS — Sophomore Connor Davidson and junior Nick Grazul each turned in strong pitching performances to lead Athens to wins over Towanda and Thomas A. Edison Saturday afternoon in baseball action.
Athens opened the day with a 6-2 win at Towanda, and finished off the day at home with a 10-0 five-inning win over Thomas A. Edison.
ATHENS 6, TOWANDA 2At Wysox, Davidson gave up a pair of runs in the first inning, but was dominant for the remainder of the game in leading Athens to a 6-2 win over Towanda in NTL Large School Division action.
Davidson tossed 6 1/3 innings to earn the win, allowing two runs — one earned — on two hits, while striking out 14 and walking three.
Kade Rowe gave up a single in two-thirds of an inning of scoreless relief.
Towanda scored twice on its two hits off Davidson in the bottom of the first inning, and led 2-0 after two innings.
In the top of the third inning, sophomore Duncan theta led off with a single, but was immediately replaced on the base paths by Rowe after a fielder's choice grounder.
After a walk to junior Eli Chapman and a single by junior Nick Grazul loaded the bases, Davidson worked a walk to force home a run and close the gap to 2-1.
With two outs, sophomore Brady Flynn lined a two-run double to left field to give the Wildcats a 3-2 lead.
Davidson forced home another run in the fourth inning with a bases-loaded walk to make it 4-2.
Rowe and Chapman led off the sixth with back-to-back singles, and with out one scored on a two-run single to left field by Davidson to extend the lead to 6-2.
Davidson, who did not allow a runner to reach second base after the first inning, struck out the first batter in the bottom of the seventh before reaching his pitch count.
Davidson also paced the Wildcats at the plate with a single and four RBI, while Rowe singled twice and scored two runs, and Thetga singled twice and scored one run.
Flynn doubled and drove in two runs in the win, while Grazul singled and scored two runs, Chapman singled and scored one run, and freshman Ty Owen, senior Dylan Saxon and Eli Hobday each added a single.
ATHENS 10, EDISON 0, 5 inn.At Athens, Grazul tossed five shutout innings to lead the Wildcats to a 10-0 non-league win over Thomas A. Edison Saturday afternoon.
Grazul allowed three hits in five innings, while striking out eight and walking one to earn the win.
Athens scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning, and extended its lead to 7-0 after two innings.
The Wildcats tacked on a run in the fourth inning, and plated two runs in the fifth inning to invoke the 10-run rule.
Saxon doubled and singled, scored one run, and drove in two runs, and Flynn doubled and singled, and scored two runs to pace Athens' eight-hit attack, while Hunter Brennan singled and drove in two runs.
Grazul singled and scored three runs for the Wildcats, while Eli Today doubled, scored two runs, stole two bases, and knocked in one run, Rowe singled and knocked in one run, and Davidson and Chapman each crossed the plate once.
Athens, now 9-1, travels to Troy Thursday.
