VALLEY SPORTS REPORT: ATHENS' HILEY, TIOGA'S ALBRECHT NAMED BISHOP BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION 'ATHLETES OF THE WEEK' (2025-04-21)

THE VALLEY — Sophomore Gretchan Hiley pitched Athens past a pair of previously-unbeaten teams on consecutive days, and Tioga junior Gavin Albrecht punched his ticket to States in the pole vault. They are the VSR / Bishop Brothers Construction "Athletes of the Week," for the week ending April 19.

HILEY NAMED BISHOP BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION GIRLS "ATHLETE OF THE WEEK"
Hiley struck out 20, allowed five hits and walked three in 11 innings, while lead Athens to wins over previously-unbeaten Tioga and North Penn-Liberty.

On Thursday, Hiley tossed four shutout innings, allowing one hit and one walk, and striking out nine in a five-inning 13-0 win over Tioga.

On Friday, Hiley allowed an unearned run on four hits, while striking out 11 and walking two in a complete-game seven-inning effort to break North Penn-Liberty's 50-game regular-season win streak, and 42-game NTL win streak in a 5-1 win.

At the plate, Hiley was 1-for-6 with three runs scored, and one RBI.

ALBRECHT NAMED BISHOP BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION BOYS "ATHLETE OF THE WEEK"
Albrecht had a a pair of first-place finishes in the pole vault, and a win in the 100-meter dash on the week.

On Monday at the Marathon Spring Fling, Albrecht cleared the bar at 13-feet, 9-inches to easily top the state standard of 13-feet, 3-inches, and meet the super standard of 13-9, which automatically qualifies him for the Class C Championships. He also won the 100-meter dash in 11.81 seconds, and was sixth in the long jump.

On Thursday, Albrecht cleared 14-feet, 1-inch, and combined with Ryan Chamberlain to set a new school record of 24-feet, 1-inch at the Chenango Forks Rotary Relays. He also ran on the winning 400-meter relay.
