NTL BASEBALL: SAYRE LEADS EARLY, BUT FALLS TO CANTON, 13-5 (13 PHOTOS) (2025-04-22)

Valley Sports Report
SAYRE — Sayre had the lead early, but Canton finished strong en route to a 13-5 win here Tuesday afternoon in NTL Small School Division baseball action.

After the Warriors plated a run in the top of the first inning, senior Jamier Kole led off the home half of the inning. Kole stole second, and advanced to third on a ground out.

With two outs, junior Karter Green was intentionally walked, and quickly stole second. Freshman Riley McGaughey then flared a two-run single to right field to give the Redskins a 2-1 lead.

Senior Nick Pellicano led off the home half of the third inning with a single, moved to second on a passed ball, stole third base, and scored on a groundout off the bat of Green to make it 3-1.

Green, who retired seven in a row from the first inning until the fourth, hit a batter to start the fourth, then was the victim of two errors, including a dropped third strike, that resulted in two Canton runs to tie the game at 3-3.

Logan Zingeser and Green stroked back-to-back two-out singles, but were left stranded.

With two outs in the top of the fifth, Green hit another batter, and the Warriors followed with back-to-back doubled to take a 5-3 lead, then took advantage of two more Sayre errors to make it 7-3.

Kiyshon Kole and senior David Hall hit back-to-back RBI singles in the bottom of the fifth to close the gap to 7-5, but the Warriors answered with three runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh to put the game away.

Green singled twice, scored two runs, stole two bases, and drove in one run to pace Sayre's nine-hit attack, while McGaughey singled, scored one run, and drove in two runs, and Kiyshon Kole and Hall each had one hit and one RBI.

Jamier Kole and Pellicano each singled and scored one run for the Redskins, while Zingeser and freshman Tucker Green each added a single.

Karter Green was tagged with the loss, allowing seven runs — three earned — on five hits, while striking out 10 and walking one in five innings.

Sayre, now 0-10, hosts Athens Friday.
