IAC BASEBALL: ROUGHT LEADS TIOGA TO 12-2 WIN OVER MARATHON (18 PHOTOS) (2025-04-23)

Valley Sports Report
MARATHON — Freshman Josh Rought pitched a complete game, and powered the offense in a 12-2 five-inning win over Marathon here Wednesday afternoon in IAC Small School Division baseball action.

Rought earned the win, allowing two runs — one earned — on four hits, while striking out nine and walking one in five innings of work.

The Tigers took the lead in the top of the first inning.

Senior Shea Bailey led off the game with a single, stole second and third, and scored on an RBI single to right field by sophomore Jackson Bombard.

After Bombard stole second, he scored on a one-out RBI single by senior Garrett Godfrey to make it 2-0.

Junior Cooper Dember followed with a double to put runners on second and third, and junior Jackson Varner capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.

Marathon took advantage of a Tioga error in the home half of the inning to score a pair of runs on two hits and close the gap to 3-2, but Rought only allowed two hits the remainder of the contest.

With one out, junior Nick Slater walked, and Bailey and Bombard followed with back-to-back singles to load the bases.

Rought then delivered the key hit in the game, a bases-clearing doubled that extended the Tioga lead to 6-2.

Rought later scored on an error to make it 7-2.

In the fifth inning, Kaiden Sindoni hit an RBI double to make it 8-2, and Shea Bailey added a two-run double to give the Tigers a 10-2 lead.

Rought capped the scoring with a two-run singled to make it 12-2 and bring the 10-run rule into play.

Rought pitched around a lead-off single in the home half of the fifth, and retired the next three batters to end the game via the 10-run rule.

Rought doubled and singled, scored one run, and had five RBI, while Bailey had three hits, including a double, scored three runs, stole two bases, and drove in two runs, and Bombard singled twice. Scored three runs, and knocked in one run to pace Tioga's 11-hit attack.

Godfrey singled twice, scored one run, and knocked in one run for the Tigers, while Sindoni doubled, scored one run, and drove in one run. Dember doubled and scored one run, Varner had one RBI, and Slater and sophomore Gavin Kithcart each crossed the plate once.

Tioga, now 6-2, returns to action Monday at Union Springs.
