ATHENS LITTLE LEAGUE SOFTBALL (MAJORS): TEAM BISHOP BOUNCES BACK WITH TWINBILL SWEEP OF EAST SMITHFIELD (May 2, 2025)
Valley Sports ReportATHENS — Team Bishop bounced back from a season-opening loss, and posted a doubleheader sweep of East Smithfield Wednesday in Athens Little League Majors Division softball action.
Team Wanck (Athens) 11, Team Bishop 1Team Wanck plated seven runs in the third inning to blow open a one-run game on its way to a season-opening 11-1 four-inning win over Team Bishop on April 21.
Kendall Butcher had Bishop's only hit in the contest, and Harper Liechty scored the team's only run.
Sadie Wanck singled twice and scored one run, while Olivia Wilcox singled, scored one run, and had four RBI, Aaleah Teeple doubled, scored one run, and had three RBI, and Emma Peachy singled and drove in one run to account for Team Wanck's five hits.
Lindsay Ahern scored two runs and drove in one run in the win, while Shyla Benson and Terri Orshal each scored two runs, Milan Garrison scored one run and knocked in one run, Katalina Cantellops drove in one run, and Sophia Barrett crossed the plate once.
Wilcox earned the win for Team Wanck, allowing an unearned run on one hit, while striking out seven and walking five in four innings.
Team Bishop 17, East Smithfield 1On Wednesday, Team Bishop took control immediately and rolled to a 17-1 three-inning win over East Smithfield in the first game of a doubleheader.
Bishop's scored five runs in the first inning, then tallied six runs in each of the second and third innings.
Bryn Bishop earned the win, allowing an unearned run on one hit, while striking out six and walking three in three innings in the circle.
Molly McGrath was 3-for-3 with three runs scored, and four RBI, while Alexis Shores rapped a pair of doubles, scored one run, and had four RBI, and Khloe Butcher singled twice, scored two runs, and drove in one run to pace Bishop's 11-hit attack.
Harper Liechty homered, scored three runs, and had three RBI in the win, while Jordyn Benson singled and scored two runs, Bishop singled and scored one run, and Kendall Butcher added a single.
Haylee Bickhart scored one run and had two RBI for Team Bishop, while Emma Bentley and Penelope Medcalf each scored two runs.
Team Bishop 16, East Smithfield 9On Wednesday, Team Bishop raced out to a 12-0 lead, then fended off an East Smithfield rally on its way to a 16-9 win in the nightcap of the twin bill.
Team Bishop scored six runs in the second inning, two more in the third, and four in the fourth inning to take a 12-0 lead, but East Smithfield answered with nine runs in the home half of the fourth inning.
Bishop sealed the win with four runs in the top of the fifth.
Bickhart doubled and singled, scored one run, and had two RBI, and Khloe Butcher doubled and singled, scored two runs, and had one RBI to pace Team Bishop's 11-hit attack, while McGrath tripled, scored two runs, and drove in two runs, and Brooklyn Watkins doubled, scored two runs, and knocked in two runs.
Liecthy singled, scored three runs, and had two RBI in the win, while Shores singled, scored two runs, and knocked in one run, Benson singled and drove in two runs, Bishop singled and scored two runs, Medcalf singled and drove in one run, and Kendall Butcher scored two runs.
Khloe Butcher earned the win, allowing three earned runs on two hits and 11 walks, while striking out four in four innings. Bishop struck out two in a scoreless inning of relief.
Team Bishop returns to action Saturday when it hosts Sayre at 5 p.m.
