IAC SOFTBALL: TIOGA POUNDS OUT DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP OF GROTON (8 PHOTOS) (2025-05-05)

GROTON — Tioga's offense dominated the day, scoring 42 runs in the a doubleheader sweep of Groton here Monday afternoon in support of good pitching performances from 8th-grader Kate Kithcart, and junior RaeAnne Feeko in IAC Small School softball action.

(NOTE: The game was originally slated to be played at Tioga, with the two teams playing again Thursday at Groton, but was switched to a doubleheader.)

Tioga 18, Groton 1, 5 inn.

Eighth-grader Kate Kithcart tossed a three-hitter, and the Tioga offense took advantage of 14 base on balls in an 18-1 win over Groton in the opening game of the doubleheader.

Kithcart struck out six and walked three in five innings. She yielded three hits.

Tioga, playing as the home team, scored four runs in the first inning, five more in the second to take a 9-0 lead, then pushed eight runs across the plate to take a 17-1 lead after three innings.

Senior McKenzie Williams homered and singled, scored three runs, and had four RBI to lead Tioga's nine-hit attack, while junior Raegan Foley singled twice, stole two bases, scored two runs, and drove in one run, and 8th-grader Bri Lounsbury singled, scored three runs, and knocked in two runs.

Junior RaeAnne Feeko singled, scored three runs, and drove in one run in the win, while sophomore Vanessa Tunnicliff singled, scored one run, and had two RBI, 8th-grader Irie Lynch singled, stole two bases, scored one run, and knocked in one run, and sophomore Jade Keaty singled, scored one run, and drove in one run.

Kithcart scored three runs and knocked in one run for the Tigers, and junior Lilly Mezzatesta scored one run and drove in one run.

Second Game
Tioga 24, Groton 5

In the nightcap, Tioga jumped out to a 10-0 lead, and cruised to a 24-5 win over Groton.

Junior Emily Shiner was 4-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, and three RBI, and Feeko had three hits, including a pair of home runs, three stolen bases, four runs scored, and six RBI to pace Tioga's 16-hit attack, while Lynch had three hits, including a home run, four runs scored, three stolen bases, and three RBI. (All three home runs were inside-the-park homers.)

Mezzatesta doubled and singled and scored one run for the Tigers, while Kithcart singled, scored two runs, and had four RBI, Williams singled, scored three runs, and had two RBI, and Lounsbury singled, stole four bases, and scored three runs.

Keaty scored three runs, stole four bases, and drove in one run in the win, and Tunnicliff crossed the plate once.

Feeko earned the win in the pitcher's circle, allowing five runs — four earned — on two hits, with seven strikeouts and seven walks.

Tioga, now 10-2, hosts Northeast Bradford Tuesday.
