NTL SOFTBALL: SAYRE FALLS, 5-4, AT COWANESQUE VALLEY IN WALK-OFF FASHION (2025-05-07)
Valley Sports ReportWESTFIELD, Pa. — Cowanesque Valley scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to walk off with a 5-4 win over Sayre here Wednesday afternoon in NTL Small School Division softball action.
The Redskins took the lead in the top of the first inning on back-to-back two-out doubles by seniors Raegan Parrish and Abbie McGaughey.
The Indians scored a run in the bottom of the second inning on a wild pitch to tie the game at 1-1, but an RBI single by Raegan Parrish to score junior Olivia Thompson, who led off the top of the third inning with a single, put the Redskins back on top, 2-1.
Freshman McKenna Parrish delivered a one-out RBI double in the top of the fifth to give the Redskins a 3-1 lead.
CV loaded the bases on three walks to start the bottom of the fifth, then tied the game on a passed ball and a wild pitch.
A hit batter and another walk re-loaded the bases, but Raegan Parrish worked out of the jam to keep it 3-3 after five innings.
Senior Mercedez Haggerty scored on a two-out four-bases error in the top of the sixth to give Sayre a 4-3 lead.
The Redskins had runners on second and third and two outs in the top of the seventh, but left the runners there.
CV tied the game on an error in the bottom of the seventh, and plated the winning run moments later on an RBI double.
Raegan Parrish had three hits, including a pair of doubles, scored one run, and had one RBI, and McGaughey doubled and singled and drove in one run to pace Sayre's seven-hit attack.
Thompson singled and scored two runs, and McKenna Parrish doubled and drove in one run for the Redskins, and Haggerty crossed the plate once.
Raegan Parrish was tagged with the tough-luck loss, allowing five runs — three earned — on four hits, with seven strikeouts and seven walks.
Sayre, now 2-11, hosts Wyalusing Thursday.
