NTL SOFTBALL: ATHENS POUNDS OF 19-3 WIN OVER COWANESQUE VALLEY (2025-05-08)
Valley Sports ReportWESTFIELD — Athens banged out 15 hits, played flawless defense, and scored 11 runs in the seventh inning to beat Cowanesque Valley, 19-3, here Thursday in NTL softball action.
The Wildcats scored three runs in the top of the first inning, and led 4-2 after three innings.
Athens scored one run in the fifth inning, and three more in the sixth to extend its lead to 8-2.
The Wildcats left no doubt in the outcome with 11 runs in their final at-bat to stretch their advantage to 19-2.
Freshman Memphis Paul had three hits, including a triple, two runs scored, and four RBI, while sophomore Gretchan Hiley had four hits, including two doubles, two runs scored, and three RBI, and junior Maddie Hiley doubled and singled, scored two runs, and drove in three runs to pace Athens at the plate.
Sophomore McKenna Jarvis singled twice, scored four runs, and had one RBI for the Wildcats, while junior Savannah Finan doubled, scored two runs, and drove in two runs, senior Jules Pack singled, scored two runs, and knocked in three runs, senior Ella Coyle singled, scored one run, and drove in two runs, senior Gretchen Schmieg singled, scored two runs and knocked in one run, and junior Danica May crossed the plate once.
Gretchan Hiley was the beneficiary of the offensive outburst. She allowed three runs on six hits, while striking out 14 and walking five in seven innings to earn the win.
Athens, now 15-1, hosts South Williamsport Monday.
