NTL SOFTBALL: MADDIE HILEY TOSSES NO-HITTER; ATHENS BLANKS CANTON, 11-0 (2025-05-14)
Valley Sports ReportCANTON — In just her second start of the season, junior Maddie Hiley tossed a no-hitter to lead Athens to an 11-0 five-inning win over Canton here Wednesday afternoon in NTL softball action.
With Wildcat ace Gretchan Hiley out of action, Maddie Hiley (her sister) fanned four and walked three to earn the win.
Gretchan Hiley has four 1-hitters and five shutouts to her credit this season, but the no-hitter is the first of the season for the 18-1 Wildcats.
Athens scored two runs in the top of the second inning on RBI from junior Danica May and freshman Kendall Galasso.
The Wildcats added four more runs in the third inning in a rally that featured a two-RBI single by May and an RBI single by junior Savannah Finan.
Senior Jules Pack stroked a two-out RBI single, and Finan roped a line-drive RBI double to make it 8-0 after 3 1/2 inning.
Athens brought the 10-run rule into play with three runs in the top of the fifth to take an 11-0 lead.
Maddie Hiley retired the last 12 batters she faced.
Finan was 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored, and two RBI, while senior Ella Coyle singled twice and scored two runs, and sophomore McKenna Jarvis singled twice, scored two runs, and knocked in one run to pace Athens' 11-hit attack.
May singled and had three RBI in the win, while Pack and Galasso singled, scored one run, and drove in one run, freshman Abby Ahern singled and scored two runs, and freshman Memphis Paul crossed the plate once.
Athens will wrap up the regular season Friday at Towanda.
