NTL BASEBALL: ATHENS DROPS REGULAR-SEASON FINALE, 9-6, AT HUGHESVILLE (2025-05-15)

HUGHESVILLE — Hughesville raced out to an early lead, and held on to beat Athens, 9-6, here Thursday afternoon in non-league baseball action.

The Spartans scored two runs in the home half of the first inning, and added five more in the second to take a 7-1 lead.

The Wildcats scored an unearned run in the top of the third inning, and added two more runs in the fourth inning on an RBI-double by senior Troy Rosenbloom and an RBI single by sophomore Connor Davidson to close the gap to 7-4.

Hughesville answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth to push the lead back to 8-4.

Sophomore Brendan Cooke belted an RBI double in the top of the sixth inning, and later scored on a groundout off the bat of sophomore Kam Wheeler to trim the deficit to 8-6.

Hughesville added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth, scoring on a two-out wild pitch, to take a 9-6 lead.

Athens was retired in order in the top of the seventh to end the game.

Rosenbloom and Cooke each doubled and singled, scored two runs, and drove in one run, and Davidson singled twice and scored one run to pace Athens at the plate.

Sophomore Duncan Thetga and senior Dylan Saxon each singled and drove in one run, while Wheeler added a single, and junior Eli Hobday scored one run.

Thetga had the best turn on the mound for the Wildcats, allowing two runs — one earned — on four hits in 4 1/3 innings of relief. He fanned five and walked two.

Athens wraps up the regular season at 15-4.

The Wildcats will be the third seed in the upcoming District 4, Class 4A baseball playoffs and will face second-seeded Montoursville Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Williamsport High School.
